Who we are

We are a group of professionals and volunteers building digital systems that transform complexity and despair into simplicity and hope.

We create the most impact when we connect those who want to help with those in need after a natural disaster.

We work with

How we work

We build systems that collect, transport, and deliver critical information in times of crisis. Organizations and individuals make more informed decisions, saving resources and even lives.

We seek problems of network complexity, where using old methods to manage connections and communications between an increasing number of organizations and individuals is overwhelming. We engage multiple organizations with common problems to contribute resources for the creation of a shared digital system. We analyze how things work, identify the problem areas, envision solutions, and then build a system. We then ensure easy access for new organizations who have the same problem. Creating these systems collaboratively reduces the costs to society by halting the isolated creation of expensive, difficult to use, non-interoperable tools.

What we create

SparkFund enables organizations to work together when distributing disaster recovery funds. The web application significantly reduces the amount of time required for donor agencies to help evacuees.

SparkRelief unifies relief offers and requests previously scattered across blogs, social networks, news media, nonprofit websites, and government announcements. The system has primarily been used for peer-to-peer disaster relief, but would be amazing for use by organizations with a few additional features. We continue building toward our vision of a unified system that helps everyone coordinate time, money, goods, and services in the wake of disaster.

SparkLabs sends our team to listen to your challenges and refine your ideas into prototypes to help your organization explore what is possible with digital systems.
